Invest in Your Appearance and Boost Your Self-Confidence


Last Saturday was cold, rainy, and—in my opinion—the perfect day to go to the mall.

I had no plans and I needed things.

Now, you might be thinking, “Did you really need things or did you just want things?”

Yes, I needed them.

I needed jeans. I needed skin care. I needed makeup…

…and yes, as superficial as that all sounds, I still stand by the idea that I, personally, needed them.

For months I’ve been wearing jeans that were too big, dealing with skin issues, and using makeup that took way too long to apply and no longer matched my skin tone.

Consequently, for months, I’ve felt a pang of insecurity and self-consciousness each time I’ve left my apartment.

I Want to Look Better Naked!

Here at Your Body, You Mind, I’ve often talked about ways to feel your best. Diet. Exercise. Mindfulness. All those little gems that give us energy and confidence and help us conquer the world.

There’s nothing wrong with that. Actually, there’s everything right with that.

With that said, there’s nothing wrong with investing in your physical appearance to help boost your self-esteem, either. There’s nothing superficial or conceited about wanting to look your best. Don’t we all want to look our best? Wanting to look your best doesn’t mean you have to strive to be the prettiest or have the best hair or dress in the latest fashions; it simply means you want what works best for you.

Now I have jeans that fit, skin care that’s already showing results, and makeup that doesn’t make me look washed out.

Even as I walked back to my car, my self-confidence was already soaring.

This week, I challenge you to think of just one thing that’s been bothering you about your physical appearance—one thing that makes you cringe just a little when you walk out the door—and fix it.

Maybe you’re dealing with skin issues, too. Maybe your hair needs a trim or you’ve lost or gained weight and need a few new staples in your closet. Maybe you just need to spruce up your manicure.

Hey, I never said they had to be major things. I bought jeans, for Pete’s sake.

This week, I challenge you to invest in your physical appearance and see just how effective it is at boosting your self-confidence!
