5 Tips For Getting Unstuck

“If you don’t like where you are, move. You are not a tree.” – Jim Rohn

Every once in a while I go through what I like to call a transition phase in my life. It usually comes after a period of feeling stuck. I can typically identify when I’m feeling stuck, because it starts with a feeling of negative energy. I find myself feeling discontent and needing “something more”.

When I recognize I’m in one of these transition phases, I have an incredible desire to do something about it. I can literally feel my energy shifting and something in my spirit saying “move!” When I get this urge, I try to follow what I feel like are some pretty simple tips to prepare to move. After all, I’m not a tree and either are you. If you don’t like a situation you’re in and you want to move, try these five tips.

Be honest with yourself. I think the most important tip is to first take an honest look at your current situation. Being able to be completely honest with yourself is key. Ask yourself the hard questions like what matters most, what do you value, and if you are really happy – and don’t be afraid to tell yourself the truth.

Gather necessary information. Any time you are planning to make a step, whether how big or small, it is important to plan. For example, If you are looking to make a transition in your career you would want to look at what you would need to make that move.

Ask for help. Making a transition, no matter what the transition is, can be difficult. Whether it’s asking for help to assist in determining what your next steps should be, or if it’s just having someone to talk to – never be afraid to ask for help.

Start your roadmap for success. Once I’ve honestly looked at my situation, gathered necessary information, and sought help; I begin my roadmap to success. It’s a step-by-step guide to assist in making the transition smooth. It is important to remember that with any plan, there can always be unexpected delays and detours. As life happens, adjust your roadmap. It may require that you add a few steps or even change some plans completely, but it’s what gets you to the end that counts.

Visualize the end. I can’t think of a more simple way to explain this, other than by saying, “keep your eyes on the prize.” Focus on taking the necessary steps to get you where you want to be. Be careful not to get overwhelmed, and remember to take one step at time. However, always keep the end in mind.

Be well!
