I just e-mailed this post to several of my friends and family with the subject line: Essential Reading. Thank you so much for this post! I have really struggled with people thinking that my negative body-image was solely about vanity, and I could never find the words to explain that it’s about being unsatisfied with myself on a much deeper level than just the physical. Thank you for articulating it so well!

Thanks so much, Katie! It’s funny because I used to think that I really just wanted to be skinny. It was as simple as that. But there was so much more underneath the seemingly simple wish to be thinner, after I really started thinking about it. Reading Roth’s book has helped to realize that, too. I’m so glad you liked the post! I’m often unsure if I’ve articulated what I wanted to say that well. I really appreciate the positive feedback! πŸ™‚

This book hasn’t hit our shelves in Australia yet, I’ll go get it from Amazon. Geneen Roth seems to have a gift for articulating the thought patterns that so plague us when we’re stuck in negative body image, just the few things you wrote were familiar to me from those days in my life too! Thanks for the review πŸ™‚

@ Sandy, you’re welcome! I think so many people can relate to Roth’s writing. I found the book very thought-provoking and inspiring, too. Thanks so much for stopping by! πŸ™‚
