What Can You Honor Today?

When you get really quiet, when you sincerely listen, what yearns to be acknowledged and to be felt? What yearns to be said, to be written, to be drawn? What yearns to be explored?

Is it sadness, or a hint of heartache?

Is it excitement about an upcoming event?

Is it a nervousness you can’t quite place?

Is it frustration snaking through your body?

Is it disappointment about something that did or didn’t happen?

Is it the mixed feelings from last night’s dream?

Is it mixed emotions about something else?

Is it envy about how someone can seemingly do it all and red-faced anger at yourself that you clearly can’t? (Are you absolutely positive that they can?)

Is it a deep need for solitude, comfort or connection?

Is it a deep need for peace, quiet, calm?

Is it a deep need for time off?

Is it a deep need to forgive yourself?

Is it a deep need for humor and laughter and more lightness in your days?

Is it a deep need for more real, raw honesty in your relationship?

Is it a deep need for a certain place, such as the sea, the movies, an art museum, an amusement park, a coffeeshop, the forest, your favorite restaurant?

Is it a deep need to start a project (solely for yourself)?

Is it a deep need to lower your expectations, to really lower them and then lower them again?

Is it a deep need to grow something, an idea, a business, a garden?

Is it a deep need to tell someone that you feel like you’re falling apart (and it’s OK)?

What are you hungry for? Maybe it’s a food-related hunger and craving. Maybe it’s for more food (because you’ve decided to stop dieting and restricting, because your body requires more nourishment than some random number of calories prescribed by some random “eating plan”).

Maybe it’s for sushi, chocolate chip ice cream, a stack of pancakes, or a bowl of pasta. Or maybe it’s a hunger for something else, like reconnecting to your body, reconnecting to your spouse, reconnecting to a quality of yours you feel like you’re losing.

Maybe it’s a hunger for knowledge, art, play, inspiration or understanding.

What if you honored that one thing, that one feeling, that one craving, that one need today, right now, this week?
