25 Journal Prompts for Exploring Your Rich Inner Life

Colorful Hippie Mandala Seamless Pattern

Our inner worlds are rich, vibrant, fertile. We sometimes forget this as we try to check off tasks, as we run around, as we focus on our full, busy lives. So it’s understandable that we might not spend much time in self-reflection.

But tuning into our inner life doesn’t have to take a long time. You don’t need to spend hours glued to your chair. You can spend minutes every day exploring in your journal or you can spend several days a week. Either way, try to look at it as going on an adventure inside your mind, inside your body, inside your soul.

Below are 25 prompts to get you started. Some of these might seem strange. But that’s the point. Sometimes the oddest prompts lead to the most interesting insights. Of course, respond to the prompts that speak to you, and skip the rest.

  1. I remember this about last night’s dream … This is how I felt during that dream … and this is how I feel about it now …
  2. When I really think about it, this is what I’m yearning …

  10. These are some of the stories I carry …
  11. If my personality were a tapestry, it would be made of …

  14. I loved these three things today …
  15. If I were a book, my opening line would be …
  16. This is why I move my body …

  25. These are the things that help me to breathe better …

Your inner life is important. It actually rules your outer life. It navigates your external world, making your decisions, creating your routines, shaping your mood, self-worth, body image and a whole lot more. Whether you’re conscious of it or not. Whether you pay attention to it or not.

Take the time to look within, to explore what’s swimming beneath the surface. It’s not only worthwhile, but it also can become a fun adventure.
