A positive body image goes beyond liking your looks. It encompasses taking good care of yourself and leading a fulfilling life. In this weekly series, I share some of my favorite posts from some of my favorite bloggers on this topic. Sometimes I also share relevant pieces that I’ve written on the Web. Hope you find these links inspiring!
If you’re telling yourself a story that keeps you small or stuck in negativity, change it.
Jen shares her insights on desire. I really like this one:
Desire is not mood. Mood is fleeting, ever changing, affected by what you ate yesterday and your last attack of thoughts. Desire lives underneath mood. It burns and burbles there, waiting to be tended, to be listened to, to be attuned to. To do so might require shifting your mood through noticing your thoughts without believing them, drinking a cool glass of water, getting up from the desk and feeling life all around you, dancing, calling a friend who can listen to you vent for 5 minutes – in other words choosing “What do I want?” vs. “What am I in the mood for?” (I learned this from my friend Michael Neill.)
Remember that self-care is also about saying “no.”
“We’ve been robbed.” A beautiful and powerful post from Rachel. One of my favorite parts:
The truth, it turns out, is that food, sex, and body movement are about pleasure.
They are about our own, rightful pleasure.
They are about connecting to our own bodies, feeling our sensations, and following the thread of pleasure where it leads.
