It is fascinating that people can watch the same show and come away with such different perspectives. My take away of Clair Underwood is much different than the author of this blog. I see her very much in command of her identity and needs. In actuality, I see her manipulating Frank far more strategically than Frank does with the other players. She is the personification of Lady Macbeth. Her ruthless, manipulative personality is far more disordered than Frank’s. I might be able to find a small amount of understanding of how his traumatic early childhood experience may justify his narcissism but this woman, as an entitled & indulged child, believed she could make the sun rise. Her identity, as damaged as it is, is still clear – she is superior and Frank is there to provide her with the platform to demonstrate it to the masses.
