Today I Love Talking To Friends

A good book

Today I love talking to friends, especially friends I didn’t know I had. I love that I had a chat last night with one of the gentlemen who started our folk festival 45 years ago and we laughed a fair bit more than strangers usually laugh and it was a good talk and I set up the opportunity to interview him in the coming days and now I find myself looking forward to doing that even though I’m nobody’s idea of a good interviewer. I love that the festival is as close to my heart as anything of that kind could be and that makes Tim Harrison as close to a hero as anyone I know. I love that I’ve started reading his book and that’s some pretty entertaining stuff right there. I love that in my imagination he is still the wild young man that started a festival forty-five years ago and yet my mind tells me he’s older than I am. I love that in my mind I’m still just eighteen so he can stay a young man there as well. I love how when I stop and think about what he did with this one enterprise I am forced to realize how huge an impact he has had on my life and the lives of many of my friends.

Today I love that yesterday looked like it had the potential to be a total dumpster fire and in the end it almost all got taken care of. I love that the two least likely things to get done were making pie pastry and baking bread, and of those only the bread baking didn’t get done. I love that today I’ll be baking bread. I love the addition of whole wheat flour to my bread these days ’cause that makes it healthier so the people who care about me are happier, and it reminds me of brown bread from when I was a child, and that makes me happier. I love happier.

Today I love local peaches, or at least local-ish peaches from my province. I love that I made a turnover from homemade jam and the remnants of the pie pastry for dessert last night and it was pretty darned good. I love that I have a quick road trip this morning and then I’ll be home taking care of business. I love that I will be working on prep for this Sunday’s live show again today, but that other things will get done as well. I love how easy it is to do my kitchen work now with the new kitchen so close to completion.

Today I love sipping coffee while I contemplate one of my unexpected heroes.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
