Today I Love That There Are Days

empty pie shell
Rhubarb custard pie in the making …

Today I love that there are days that seem to never end and others that jet by so quickly. I love that if you are observant you can figure out which one is which and take advantage of it. I love using days that seem to drag to do things that I enjoy, though that often makes them speed up again. I love that the days that slip by like they’re strapped to a rocket are usually the ones that are inherently fun. I love how sometimes fun days can be lazy slow ones and sometimes hard days can slip by quickly, because those are the good and well behaved days. I love that there are days that I remember as being wonderful. I love that I have mostly forgotten that there were days that were not so good, so long rough days, who needs you. I love that as soon as I wrote, “who needs you,” I realized that I need those days to remind me of how dark and difficult things can be so that I’ll cherish the good days in a manner worthy of their blessings. I love that there are days meant for reading and days meant for working and days meant for fun and days meant for love and I get a healthy mix of all of those. I love that there are days, lots of days still to come for me if I play my cards right and I hope to keep playing those cards right so deal me in for this next hand and I’ll do my best. Yes, I love that there are days.

Today I love that it is Wednesday and Wednesday is always a good day for me. I love that I’m doing yesterday’s laundry today because it rained all day yesterday so I put it off. I love that, although it seems to be planning to rain all day today as well, I am still doing laundry because I’m in need of clean clothes, or will be by day’s end so today the quietly reassuring sounds of the washer are my company while I write.

Today I love that I got lots done yesterday despite my not feeling great at the beginning of the day. I love that today is floor day and I intend to extend the new subfloor well into the new living room space. I love that today is paella day and that will be happening in our big old paella pan on our new cook top. I love that today is also pie day, Monday, Tuesday, Pieday, Thursday, and so on. I love that I need to use up some stuff so I’m making another rhubarb custard pie and as luck would have it, we’re out of muffins so pie will be the trest du jour for the next two or three days.

Today I love drinking coffee while my pie crust thaws and I finish up my writing.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
