Today I Love Friday’s Holiday Hues

kitchen with trim and under cabinet lights
Schweet lights, eh?

Today I love Friday’s holiday hues, the colors of weekends and days of leisure coming up. I love how Friday is the last work day of a work week and yet the first day of the weekend at the same time, look at you all multi-tasking, you Friday you. I love that there are things changing in my province today, groups of people up to ten in number can now meet on lawns and in driveways so long as they practice social distancing, people can now go get a haircut if they want (though I’m still about a year or so out from my regularly scheduled next haircut, if I opt in), and restaurants will be opening up with proper precautions in place. I love that we will likely continue to stay as isolated as possible for our own sake as well as for the sake of those we come into contact with through work and errand running. I love that this whole thing has been managed with intelligence and calm, and we have followed the suggestions where we could and to the best of our abilities and we’ve so far stayed healthy. I love that we are happy to look after ourselves and have enjoyed the time it has taken to do so.

Today I love that it is grocery day and though I need to go out for some of those, I’m looking forward with a little bit of excitement to doing that even as I am feeling some trepidation at performing that same activity. I love being able to see what I’m buying before I choose it, it’s a luxury we haven’t had these past two plus months. I love that I will likely never stop ordering groceries online, what an amazing convenience that was there all along. I love that today I’m doing both, ordering from one store and going to another, ’cause that’s the way I get the best of what I want from my grocery shopping.

Today I love that the trim is on the cabinets and cupboards, and the under cabinet lights are up in my kitchen and they look funky and cool. I love that I made a roux and turned it into a white sauce and then made that into a cheese sauce and then made macaroni and cheese casserole and it was by far the easiest time I’ve ever had doing that because of my gas cook top. I love that I loved cooking before but no it’s a whole new level of cooking love. I love cooking love.

Today I love sipping Friday coffee while I make out my Friday grocery list in the Friday glow of the under cabinet lights.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
