Today I love Being By The Water

kayaks by the water
The water is whispering, “come play” …

Today I love being by the water in the early morning while I write and chat with the neighbors. I love the freshness of the air by the water. I love how clear the water is on calm days. I love that our bay is so cold that there is no way I’m getting into it today to swim and so today becomes a lazy, lazy day. I love that we have big plans for the day and they include kayaking and reading and lounging and I intend to hit those tasks hard and work myself weary with their required efforts. I love that we can’t work too much because it might be against the cottage rules which we have not yet decided on. I love the noises of the birds in the trees down here by the water and the sounds of the waterfowl when they suddenly decide they need to be someplace else and explode out of the water and slap the surface with their wings and jet across the surface just a few inches above the water’s surface. I love that every time a jet-ski fires up I am assured that once they’ve realized that they are alone, no one is actually watching them, and they’ve gone in circles both ways several times, they will get bored and go back in to shore to ask if everyone saw them and it will be at least twenty minutes before they forget that it was boring and they head out to do the same thing over again.

Today I love the smell of the water in every breath I take this morning, it is rich and sweet and calls me to stay here and urges me to keep breathing deeply. I love that every time a boat coasts by out on the bay in a few minutes the wake washes up on our shore and tries to get my attention and I keep writing and smile and wish the water well and tell it to go play without me for a while and I’ll be there soon. I love that kayaking is the first thing on my to do list today after I am done writing I’m ready for that because someone has brought my kayak and gear down to the water’s edge for me.

Today I love cottage breakfast which, even when it is the same as a breakfast cooked at home, always tastes better or at least different in a good way. I love that the cottage has its own culture that flavors life in an exotic way. I love exotic life flavors. I love that I am done writing for today with the publishing of this post, yay Sundays.

Today I love drinking coffee on the shore while I write and get ready to go out on the water for a paddle.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
