Today I Love That The Flyers Came

flyers at the end of the drive
It’s a really exciting day

Today I love that the flyers came and are lying in a bag at the end of our driveway. I love that I haven’t gone out to get them yet, I’m delaying gratification. I love that four months ago we would plan days where we would be listing all the things that needed to happen in a timely manner, things like curling and running open mics, getting to work, writing blog posts and making dinner and all those things might happen all in one day, and now I get excited when the flyers are delivered on Thursday morning because we can then make out our online grocery shopping list for tomorrow. I love that I’m still having lots of fun, and that I now know how little it takes to make me happy. I love that we had fried eggs and watched Olympic Mixed Doubles Gold Medal Curling for breakfast, isolation changes many things. I love that every time I see John Morris and Kaitlyn Laws win that game it thrills me and there are shots they make that still give me goosebumps. I love being easy to entertain, and I love that I can entertain myself if I have to. I love that I was taught that skill by a very smart mother who say the need for that in my life.

Today I love that after publishing on social media a litany of health issues I’ve been saddled with many friends commented in supportive and complimentary ways, and though I felt guilty for burdening them with my woes, I was turned around in my whining by their kindness and have been reminded that I still only have one job and that is to enjoy this life that has been given to me. I love that it is a long list and I have decided to be proud that I have such a collection of troubles and am still intending to survive for quite a while yet. I love that I am not prepared to give in for a good long while. I love that my favorite line has become, “Stand back, this is going to get real!”

Today I love that I’ll be sending off my radio show on time like I always do. I love that I’m happy to be doing the things I love doing. I love that it seems like my entire life has been building up to this point and that this is just a point on a path to bigger and better things to come. I love that all things come to those who wait, but they come faster to those who go out to meet them. I love that I am on the road to meet those things.

Today I love drinking coffee and making big plans to go get the flyers … what? You brought them in already? Well let’s take a look at them.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
