Today I love Friday morning paddles along the shore of the bay that one could conceivably launch a boat in and go almost anywhere in the world that is touched by open water. I love that there is a route from my cottage’s shoreline to Africa, Asia, Australia, South America; it might be a convoluted path to take, but it can be done if one had the intention to. I love that there was a time when I was intent on circumnavigating South Western Ontario by boat, I may not make it and that’s all right too, but if the option ever comes up I doubt I could say no. I love how the water is all around us here, and it never feels like we are restricted by it, but rather we are strengthened and comforted by it. I love how all my life I have been drawn to it. I love that it makes me feel clean and free and easy when I am by it, how I define myself by its distance from me, how I am either beside it or looking forward to being beside it again. I love the sweet smell of cedars in the warm Spring sunshine. I love how still the air is here today. I love that this is a day worthy of summer and yet Summer is still a month away. I love that I am sitting here on the deck now listening to almost every bird you might imagine, including an industrious woodpecker next door working on removing bugs from a tree by the shore.
Today I love that my cousin Michael is in stable condition and the prognosis sounds good, if daunting, for him recovering fully from an accident he had on Tuesday evening. I love that during these trying times his healthcare sounds like it is coping with our current troubles well enough to give him the care and resources he needs to recover. I love that his family and friends are rallying around and supporting each other with an energy that would make others jealous. I love my family and their resilience.
Today I love the blue of the bay, the spectrum of duck breeds that reside here, the sweetness of our own company when we are relaxing. I love our adventures in food and our fusion of cultures that makes our diet so interesting and delicious. I love how quickly we incorporate new ideas into our diet even if I do sometimes balk emotionally at first. I love that I’m getting hungry and that lunch time is approaching, this is fortunate timing indeed.
Today I love coffee in a moose can in a kayak on the water of the bay that leads to everywhere.
