Today I Love Evening Walks

Merry month of May morning

Today I love evening walks even in the slight drizzle that we had last night. I love that we walked our usual half hour and succeeded without any negative occurrences such as catching a cold or dying or suddenly realizing we were naked and then waking up to find it was all a dream, I hate when that happens. I love that the neighborhood remains intact and the subtle changes that Spring brings to it are so welcome. I love how Spring manages to create these changes as if by magic, a quick wash of warm rain and then suddenly some new little flower is blooming in wild and abandoned insistency as if it were always there and the rain simply washed away whatever had kept it hidden. I love that there are tiny wild strawberry plants creeping around our yard and in the lawn at the cottage as well. I love that they are so few in number that when they bear fruit the best you can do is to wander around and pick a few and eat them as you go, it always makes them taste great, knowing that there will never be enough to harvest and they are like a secret that only the forager gets to hear.  I love that our kitchen is closer and closer to being technically completed, I’m getting excited.

Today I love that there will be some drywall patching taking place and soon some of the walls will be looking like new again. I love that I have so many little things to do around this place, and yet there are still so many big things that we have taken on that need finishing also, I’ll be working on this for some time and that should keep me out of trouble, right? I love this damp morning that is promising to warm up and feed my soul with contentment. I love that the hummingbirds and the orioles have found the feeder. I love that the robins make such a racket in the morning that I keep slipping in and out of sleep while they call me to come out and see the day arriving. I love that I am able to ignore them and doze off back to sleep with a smile on my face.

Today I love that I am thinking of the garden and the things that we are planning to do with it. I love that every time a new plant germinates in the seedling trays there is a bit of celebration here and we quietly add to our inventory of veggies to look forward to. I love that I have threatened to get out my motorcycle this year and since there were no objections, and in fact some encouragement, that might just happen yet, but only after the kitchen is completely usable.

Today I love drinking coffee in the sweet May morning air, what a wonderful, lush, rich day.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
