Today I Love Cinnamon Buns

cinnamon buns in the oven
I did not sit in these

Today I love cinnamon buns, and no, I did not accidentally sit in some cinnamon. I love that I revisited an old recipe and made two dozen yeast cinnamon buns from scratch and although they did not quite live up to my memory of them they are pretty darned good. I love that i was wise enough to freeze half of them because I also have memories of eating two dozen in two to three days back when i was a younger man. I love that this will be something I revisit when i have my cook top in place and my counter tops here as well. I love that I was happy with the results, sometimes things can go so very miserably wrong and that did not happen. I love that when I am baking and things go wrong I always learn to enjoy the consumption of the results, learning to eat bad baking is a joy unto itself. I love that I am going to be humorously disappointed in myself when this day is done because I will either be baking something else which I can assure you does not need to happen, or I will not be baking anything else this day and I will feel like I’ve broken a streak, oh wait, we’re out of bread, I’ll bake.

Today I love that we have a very strict schedule, each day of the isolation, that involves my alarm going off at seven-fifteen, and one of us getting up to make coffee by eight o’clock and bringing it back to bed where we peruse the world via social media until we finish our coffee and get up for breakfast which we make sure happens before ten … most days. I love that we are otherwise fairly active and healthy, making sure we get a certain amount of exercise don’t remain sedentary for too long and and burn enough calories, though we don’t account for how many calories we take in especially on cinnamon bun baking days.

Today I love that home gets more home like every day even though the walls are torn apart in places and the plumbing isn’t quite complete and the counters are the old counters from the old kitchen cut into pieces and fit together in puzzle fashion. I love that making things better is slowly moving toward getting used to things and soon they will meet in the middle and we will then comfortably engage in finishing off the little things as we complete our home transformation.

Today I love drinking coffee at Kelly’s Island and planning my day with construction and baking highlights and maybe a bit of snacking on cinnamon buns.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
