Today I Love The Finches

cedar treesToday I love the finches frolicking and flitting freely through the cedars at the cottage when we checked on it, Spring has sprung there. I love that the Yellow Shafted Flickers were also present, calmly feeding out on the lawn and then lounging in the maple tree. I love that birds of all kinds can be seen from there and I look forward to a time when we can head to the cottage with luggage and intent, put in the dock and watch the sun paint the day in light and shadow. I love that we have the cottage, even though we cannot rent it out or move in to it at this time, though there was plans to do just that for the duration of the renovation at home. I love that we were able to do the renovation in a way that allowed us to stay home, a lucky thing we now realize. I love that when we visit the cottage to check on locks and water and other maintenance things I get a happy feeling looking forward to the time when we can return and be comfortable there for holidays and weekends. I love the quietly sleeping escarpment that lies behind the cottage and in front again. I love that I am unsure which is front and which is back at the cottage, one faces the road and one faces the water and they both face the Niagara Escarpment, one piece of it running in towards Wiarton and the other piece running back across the water to find its way to the peninsula’s end.

Today I love that this is a work day with lots of writing to be done. I love that this is a grey day with rain expected and some already having fallen. I love that this is a warm day, possibly the last for a week or so and when we go out for our walk I won’t feel so much of a chill from the weather today. I love that I still have not put away my winter coat and have worn it when I normally wouldn’t have needed it, it’s amazing how cold I get now that they have decided my blood needs to be thinner than it naturally is.

Today I love that I bought some yeast sight unseen by ordering it on the phone and when I got it it is four times the quantity that I normally buy and so I won’t have to go looking for yeast for quite some time I reckon. I love that I am now contemplating baking more than just bread, the inspirational wonders of having lots of yeast on hand. I love that I also got hold of some whole wheat flour and will soon be making a modified bread that may perhaps remind me of times long since gone, as if I needed something else to do that for me, eh?

Today I love drinking coffee while I remember the finches from the cottage and plan lots of baking and writing.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
