Today I Love The Sweet Low Clouds

low clouds on Colpoys Bay
The sky is coming down to earth

Today I love the sweet low clouds laden with water and dragging themselves over the escarpment to the north across the bay. I love how they obscure the top of the rock and the sky above it, changing the landscape completely and closing in our bay so that it feels like it is tiny and small and yet it is the entire world in this single moment of contemplation. I love that it has a grandeur that cannot be ignored, will not be denied, and yet it is accessible and welcoming in its own cool damp way. I love how much joy can be found in a warm, rainy day if joy is what you seek and why should we not always seek joy? I love that in the darkest times joy can be found in little wisps by reminding ourselves of the opposite of what has made the times dark, and by occasionally using the restrictions of the time as an excuse to fuel the doing of something new and adventurous. I love that various entertainments I have wanted to see are lately getting seen a bit more regularly by me and that is good. I love that calculated relaxation is occurring a bit more than usual. I love that we can make our way down the street every now and again with the return to our own home as the destination and thus are able to keep ourselves physically active when we feel in need of air and motion. I love that we are still working on our home and the changes that began before the isolation measures took effect.

Today I love that last night I read for awhile and then we watched a movie, or was it the movie first and then the reading? I love that it just doesn’t matter, I am enjoying my book and the movie was a fun one from the nineties and both made my evening better. I love that my evening could not have been a bad one anyway, my isolation companion is exactly whom I would have chosen to be isolated with.

Today I love the idea of mixing apricot and strawberry in a jam, I may have to try that, and it has been years since I made jam of any kind. I love that breakfast was adequate and since I made it adequate is a pretty good result. I love that this day will be warmer than most we have had recently, possibly the warmest of the year so far in our neighborhood and I’ll take that sort of thing all day long!

Today I love sipping coffee, dreaming about making jam, writing and reminiscing as the clouds drift by low on the escarpment across the bay.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
