Today I Love Old Friends

Today I love old friends like my good friend Paul from back in the old days before he joined the Armed Forces who still gets in touch with me now and then. I love when someone says hello and tells me they remember me from some long past time when our lives intersected. I love when cards arrive in the mail from someone’s best friend from kindergarten and then the story is told about how that friend was a new arrival half way through the year and the teacher asked someone to be friends with them because they would be new and alone and years later it was discovered that the teacher was also hoping to get a friend for the student she asked to help. I love that it worked, isn’t that wonderful? I love when life is quietly changed for the good and for the long term even if it’s just knowing there is someone out there who is your friend, and maybe knowing that there have been people out there who are fond enough of you to tweak things a little bit in the hopes that good things will come from that. I love that teachers are often thinking of their students lives as much as they think of their education. I love that our teachers are fighting for the needs of our students and for their own needs as well, I don’t want our children being taught by people who feel disrespected, the work a person does is the work they believe they were hired to do, and if we tell them it isn’t worth our respect they will do a job of that caliber. I love teachers.

Today I love that I am in my Wednesday office and that means another week has rolled by and I made it, yay, I win another weekly award. I love that here at Write Of Way, my company where I work, I get voted employee of the month every month because I’m the only one who votes, and, admittedly I would happily vote for someone else, but there’s no one else working here so, my hands are tied. I love how much I can make myself laugh.

Today I love strawberries in the oatmeal. I love that I almost went all day yesterday without going out to the garage to look at my oven and cook top, but then I had to go get the dolly to move something downtown and ended up looking at them after all. I love that I have a better chance of catching the flu than I do of catching the corona virus and that’s even after I had a flu shot. I love that there was a news release that a visitor to our county did not have the corona virus and I thought, “Wait, we had a visitor?” I love that that made me laugh, I’m a funny guy.

Today I love that the coffee is always already made at the Wednesday Office, that’s ready made love.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
