Today I love making for home at a steady and leisurely pace. I love that we’re both good enough at driving that either one of us can do it and we are both comfortable with that. I love that even though I am not allowed to drive for another twenty four hours I am in good hands and we are rolling home with adventurous intent. I love that I am being cared for well. I love that the hospital called and checked in on me. I love that I got to stay at my favorite hotel last night and even though there is nothing special about the place it reminds me that every time I have been in London, Ontario and stayed there they have always looked after me well and been as friendly as if they were the grandest hotel in the entire city. I love that they are nothing more than a chain hotel but the staff seems to have decided that they are the best iteration of that chain and therefore they have taken pride in sharing their good fortune with their guests. I love that I have stayed at that hotel many times over more than two decades and I hope to return there if I ever need to stay overnight in that town again. I love my life and that it seems to still be going on for a while yet.
Today I love that I am still not supposed to be writing so I am trying to write with my left hand, like I did yesterday, but today I am on my computer, not on my phone. I love that typing one handed on my computer is easier than typing left handed on my phone but I really love that tomorrow I’ll be allowed to type with both hands again. I love that there have been several instances of me realizing that this world is a right handed world and I am not currently right handed for another 24 hours or so. I love that I am happy to have been able to sacrifice the use of my right arm in exchange for not having my chest broken open.
Today I love that we will soon be home. I love that we have chosen a different route home, different from any route I’ve driven, and thus we are again on an adventure. I love that many people have contacted me in many ways to wish me well. I love that I am able to rest because, quite frankly, people poking around in your heart is a bit tiring.
Today I love drinking coffee on the road home while I write, and rest a bit.
