Today I Love The Great Bay

pickup truck
Ready to roll …

Today I love the great bay we call Georgian Bay. I love how massive it is, bigger than most lakes in the world. I love that it is part of Lake Huron-Michigan, that at it’s head is one of the worlds most amazing waterfalls that no one gets to see because it is under water, that it is full of mystery and shipwrecks and adventure, that we get to play in it and on it in the summer and that it is the backdrop of so many photos all year round. I love that it is greater in size than many lakes, and clearly deserves to be part of what we call the inland sea. I love that I have lived on or near its shores for almost all my life and that my family comes from here, love that I belong here in this bustling little city on the south west corner of this great body of water. I love that today we are going to different spots on the shore of this bay and we’re splitting up to do that and meeting back here in the middle at the end of the day’s driving. I love that I get to go to the cottage and check on it before the weekend’s worrisome weather gets here.

Today I love that yesterday I felt better than I have in quite a while and today seems to be trying to better yesterday’s state of well being. I love that today we curl when the sun goes down, ’cause that’s what our winter time Friday evenings are meant for as far as we’re concerned. I love that I have a stop to make on my drive along the shore to check out a friends new adventure that may well impact on my life somewhat, this looks like it might be some fun, more on that to come I’m sure. I love that our city, missing its main bridge and all, has settled quite nicely into managing traffic from East to West and back again. I love imagining how amazing it will be when people get their bridge back in a year or so.

Today I love natural light coming in the window. I love how bright it is in the winter time when light bounces off of every snow covered surface and finds its way into every corner. I love that my big old truck fired right up this morning and though it needs some windshield scraping to get the ice off, it is ready to roll down the road to the cottage to help me take care of a few maintenance things there.

Today I love chugging down my coffee and hitting the road to get this glorious day on the shore started.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
