Today I love starting the day with intent and making my way through it in the same way. I love that we got up, ate a pleasant breakfast and then bundled ourselves off to pick up bulk food and supplies for the week. I love that this day is growling and threatening with gusts of wind, but thus far is letting us get on with what we need to get done. I love that the weather is always part of our world this time of year, and often the guest we have to account for whenever we’re making plans to get together with others. I love how easily we fall into the actions of dealing with the snow and the wind and the visibility and things of that nature. I love that the weather has been oddly light this year, snow coming and going almost completely instead of building up layer on top of layer. I love that the driveway is cleared right down to the hard surface and that’s a nice thing to have this time of year; it is often a rippled layer of ice hard packed snow from which we clear the most fresh snow that we can by now. I love that that old driveway got cleared by someone with a shovel who was happy for the exercise, though I was prepared to do it with the blower. I love when everyone is happy about the way things have worked out.
Today I love that tonight we curl, or at least tonight one of us curls and the other one, me, throws practice rocks on the extra sheet with my curling practice friend Brendan. I love that I have watched way too much professional grade curling this past weekend and I’m ready to have my reality checked and my ambitious ideas of what I can do on the ice brought back down to my level of play. I love that I get more info about the game every time I watch and every time I play. I love that the science that is trying to explain what makes a stone curl is still not solid and is still being worked on. I love that I have my own theory, and I’m not likely the only one that does at my club.
Today I love bananas and that there is a small bunch of them in a bowl on the breakfast nook table. I love remembering them growing outside Anna’s Villa in Spain when we were there a couple of winters ago. I love that reminders of being there will be coming up on Facebook soon. I love that we broke open that jar of jam that we bought at the farmers’ market yesterday and now it’s life expectancy is very unstable.
Today I love drinking coffee while last autumn’s leaves dance carelessly on this weekends snow.
