Today I Love My Fun Imagination

laundry room
At the laundromat …

Today I love my fun imagination. I love that this morning I started contemplating calling the laundry room the “Laundromat” and thought I ought to get a sign for over the door. I love that I then imagined there should be a coin box and I figured I could just put the coins I find in the dryer and washer in there and save them for rainy day fun, then I thought that maybe that should be saved for when we need new laundry machines, then I thought, “What kind of fun is that?” and sent my imagination off to find something else more fun to think about. I love that the laundry is now rumbling away in the room next door and that I’m now thinking of that room as the laundromat even though I have vetoed the whole project, some things just stick. I love that I’m still sitting in what we now call the “Great Room” even though it is the smaller parlor type living room. I love that my fun imagination came up with that name also. I love that we think we will soon be rearranging this house and that the great room may become the kitchen and we’re hoping it will be a great kitchen when we are done and so it may continue to be called the great room, we’ll have to see. I love that my mind makes castles of the places that I live in and this house has become the blue castle for me, thank you, L.M. Montgomery.

Today I love that I got to throw some rocks for practice last night and a friend called Dave came along and he seemed pretty happy about getting to practice a bit as well. I love that I watched a game being played when I was done practice and that looked like it went really well with the score ending up being one point apart and the teams looked like they had fun, as it should be. I love when I’m curling and I feel like I’m struggling to call a good game and then I look at the scoreboard and it turns out my team is winning and I have to laugh at myself. I love that it’s all to easy to get thinking about I’m playing and forget that I have three other team mates and that the game is a result of the playing of all four of us.

Today I love that the first load of laundry is washed and will soon be hung up to dry. I love that I got taken out for lunch for my birthday yesterday and it was great. I love that I got so many happy birthday posts on Facebook from all over the country and even a few from other parts of the world. I love that I am a year older, though it’s only been a day.

Today I love sipping post birthday coffee in the great room while the laundromat next door rumbles in efficient busyness.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
