Today I Love Performing

Stage fun
Me and my crew on stage

Today I love performing on stage with good friends. I love that I and my radio show host cadre are off to the local theater to perform in the annual charity broadcast and I love that each of us is different enough that we have our own styles and our own music but we are similar enough that we work well together and enjoy each other’s company and on-stage support, at least I enjoy theirs and I hope they enjoy mine. I love that my friend Dylan sent me a recording of Freddie White performing The Parting Glass and I have learned how to play and sing a variation of that and will be singing that one today if there is time  at the end of our set. I love this bunch of musician’s hearts that live wild, free, undisguised and in the open in this town, offering their inner souls to any who will listen to them and finding their greatest joy in giving away what they so obviously cherish, their music. I love how we see the emotion, and the heart & soul in the music that people make and we work hard to share that with the world through our little one hour a week radio show. I love that Georgian Bay Roots Radio is on the air and a living and breathing thing that is alive in the five of us and in all the people who listen to our show and share it around.

Today I love this grumbly, nasty day of freezing rain and marble like snow pellets, December arriving with her calling card in hand. I love that there are only three weeks until Winter begins and then just twelve weeks after that it will be Spring again. I love to count the weeks, I love that I refuse to bury my head and talk of winter as if it might not end or as if it had never come before and was somehow a big surprise. And I love that I find beauty in Winter’s sculptures and sunset paintings, emotion in her shrouded afternoons and her long dark serenading symphonies of wild winter winds on long dark nights. I love that I find myself looking forward to her challenge, and I love that to me it feels like she is showing me her love in the only way she can.

Today I love bananas on top of my cereal. I love that there will be spring rolls made in our kitchen today and that’s going to be fun I think. I love that we are adventurous and easily entertained in the kitchen.

Today I love drinking coffee while I study my lines and hope that I might remember them all on stage.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
