Today I Love This Snowy Thursday

Flags in the fallen snow

Today I love this snowy Thursday and the feeling it has of being determined to get the day done well. I love that there are a bunch of things that need doing and adding the snow to the day just makes me more determined to get through it all. I love that I am well begun already having cleaned off the car and taken it out to fuel up for the weekend. I love that, although it kept me awake for a good deal of time last night, the reflection of light from the snow shone through the window and reminded me what winter nights are like, never quite completely dark, unlike summer nights that can be so black you can’t see where your feet or hands are. I love that the snow has fallen as normal snow, it’s like we skipped those little hard pellets of new snow that don’t ever look like real snow even though they are quite real. I love that as soon as the snow starts falling I start hearing people complain as if they had somehow convinced themselves that winter doesn’t always happen and that its arrival here and now is like a personal insult, that’s my autumnal entertainment for a few days until it gets really old and I get grumpy about it. I love that I will still make jokes, like how in my opinion this year’s Winter whine is the worst vintage ever.

Today I love that tomorrow I may get to meet one of my heroes and if I do you’ll hear about it on Saturday if you read my “Today I Love …” post that day. I love that we’re on the road again this weekend because I can’t get enough adventure in my life and this is another one of those things. I love that as adventures go, this is a quiet one, risking life or limb, just driving to the big city and staying in a hotel and attending a keynote speaker at a conference and then maybe hanging at the pool.

Today I love that we’re going shopping for unusual food this weekend and that is also an adventure. I love that I always work through these trips and that’s kind of an adventure too, finding ways to take care of things on my phone that need doing online, and when they can’t be done that way, breaking out the portable gear that is my mini office and just doing the things. I love that there are strawberries and mango chunks in the oatmeal this week. I love the way snow trims the deck rails and fence tops and tree branches, like lace on everything.

Today I love drinking coffee while I admire Winter’s preliminary art work in the back yard.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
