Today I Love Rushing Past My Schedule

On the winter roads

Today I love rushing past my schedule and on into free time, though given that I started my day by realizing I needed to do something I forgot to do yesterday it may be a little later in the day that I get to coast into that free time period. I love when things go slightly wrong and I am the one that gets to fix them. I love that my crazy old pickup truck has over 300,000 kilometers on the odometer and I love that it’s less than 16,000 miles from making it to 200,000 miles. I love that it seems determined to make it even though I hardly drive it anywhere these days. I love that it is as dramatic as I am, and when I ask it to tow things it makes a big show of how hard it is working by growling so loudly you’d think I’d hooked on to an ocean liner or something. Drama, drama, drama. I love that it still tows whatever and would likely tow the ocean liner if I asked it to, though it will never be my old red Dodge.  I love that this day is warmer than I expected it to be. I love that the vehicles are getting their oil changed today so that we’ll be able to count on them for the upcoming winter season and that there will be snow tires on the car in short order.

Today I love that my writers’ group, AScribe, met last night and we are still the best writers’ group in all the world. I love that I wrote a short story over the last three weeks and it turned out to be exactly what I wanted it to be. I love that I cannot stop writing, though I can pause at it so long as I know I will be returning to it. I love that writing is like performing in slow motion.

Today I love that my crazy town is backed up with traffic from one end to the other in a maddening and frustrating way and yet everyone is settled in for the madness and is accepting that it will be this way for the next fourteen months while one of the three main bridges gets replaced. I love that everyone is calmly taking their turn to inch forward even though they’re in a line up three or more blocks long just to make it to the intersection they want to turn at. I love that some of them are even smiling as they sit and wait, like it’s just another day, which it is.

Today I love drinking coffee while I chauffeur vehicles back and forth to the shop to have them serviced for the winter season.

Today I Love Rushing Past My Schedule

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
