Today I Love Movies

The Wednesday office space

Today I love movies and discussing them with random people in the Wednesday office for no apparent reason other than everyone was talking movies when I got there. I love that I gave my two cents worth of opinion about Beauty And The Beast and about Mulan ’cause that’s what I do. I love how many animated movies I’ve watched in the last few years and that they outnumber the number of animated movies I’d watched in the first fifty-five years of my life. I love movies and how they can take me into a world that completely envelopes me and makes me oblivious to real life for a little while. I love that when a movie is over and I return to real life I’m okay with my life and I’m happy about the way I live it. I love that anticipating a movie night or a movie date always makes me happy, and binging is even better, though we’ve figured out we feel better if we spread our binging out over a few days ’cause watching three movies in a day is pretty draining. I love how much more I see in a movie when I watch it for the second or third time. I love that the hokiest scene in a movie that I ever saw was the model of the African Queen going over the rapids in the movie of the same name and yet that is still the best Bogart movie ever made.

Today I love that I used the new mixer yesterday and it is a powerhouse of integrity and I can now let the other one go with no regrets in the hopes that someone will get to benefit from it. I love that the longer I hold out from making holiday treats the more likely I am to go overboard when I start baking. I love that I’ve already committed in my mind to making date squares and butter tart bars and there will be poppy seed loaf, because poppy seed loaf, and I will once again commence the hunt for that one mysterious loaf that I remember from my childhood, and when I find it and make it and confirm that it is the one that I remember from my childhood there will be trumpets sounding.

Today I love moving forward and making progress. I love that in the next week I will be starting to plan the new kitchen and it’s going to be a good space. I love that there will be a wall oven in there and I love remembering that I always used my wall oven with the light turned on as my proofing drawer. I love that I’m hoping for marble or composite counters and an end to cupboards where drawers should be.

Today I love drinking my coffee relentlessly and with resolution as I move through my day’s tasks here in the Wednesday office.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
