Today I Love First Snow Sunrises

sunrise on a snowy day
There’s the sun …

Today I love first snow sunrises on lonely highways. I love that I’m not lonely on the highway and I love that we have practiced driving so much that the roads and the weather and the lonely highway don’t phase us in the slightest these days. I love that we’re on the road to a conference ’cause they’re enough of a change from our normal lives that they’re like a vacation or a rest, though I’m afraid they get old for one of us rather quickly and sadly that one isn’t me. I love that conferences are typically unique and often unusual because so much work goes into making them stand out from other conferences and I love that I can see that even from the sidelines. I love that I get to hang out in swanky hotels and sit around in posh lobbies and pretend that they are my living room because, for today, this one is. I love that I packed some snacks for the weekend but I’m starting to get hungry and I’m laughing at myself and how likely it is that I will eat all the snacks this morning and then have to go out for food four or five times a day this weekend. I love that I find my follies so amusing, I can entertain myself. I love that I get my sense of humor more than others and that those who know me well find it entertaining that I entertain myself so easily.

Today I love that it is Friday ’cause Fridays are inspirational in their ability to master it all, they are work days with weekend evenings and they slide so smoothly from one to another. I love that Fridays are the perfect days to use for ditching work and starting to do something big and exciting that will take a few days, like conferences. I love that attending conferences that I’m not actually attending is an experience that few people get to have, and I’m one of those.

Today I love my old friendly jacket that keeps me warm when it’s chilly out and doesn’t mind taking a back seat when it’s time for the big old winter coat. I love that my big old winter coat seems to have an attitude that’s like, “Okay fine, I’ll let you drag me out into the cold, but I’m not going to be light and cheerful about it, I’m going to just be my same old big and bulky self.”  I love all my coats, but I secretly love when I can go out without one.

Today I love love drinking coffee on the road while I get to enjoy the sunrise through a snowfall.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
