Today I Love Road Work

The dragon soon sleeps

Today I love road work, and I don’t mean the kind that is shutting down our main road through town here for the next 15 or more months, but the kind where I haul myself down the line to pick up a trailer and bring it back to pick up a load. I love that the dragon boat has made it successfully through another season and once we’ve had a little paddle tonight, if the weather cooperates, it will be the load I put on the trailer I’m going for. I love that I get to do some of the most unusual things in my world, love that I have friends who come along for the fun of the unique stuff that happens. I love that today is full of so many busy things and yet I am looking forward to hauling an empty trailer for miles and then parking it in my yard and then hauling it through town to pick up a boat. How weird am I? Don’t answer that. 😉 I love that in the 48 hours that end tonight at midnight I have hiked, helped move a household, gone curling, cooked, written words, done IT work, and by the time we’re through I will have steered a forty foot boat and hauled it away from the water and gotten it ready for its winter hibernation. I love when the dragon sleeps only because I spend the time looking forward to when it wakes again.

Today I love that it is banana bread day here at the casa, and laundry day too. I love that things will be happening to my left and to my right and at all stations of the compass all day long. I love that I am feeling beaten and sore from the things I’ve done so far this week but I will just keep going because I don’t know any different. I love that my radio show is on my mind as well and I’m looking forward to getting that going soon. I love that we’re a little bit excited about a small but far reaching change to the show’s distribution, that’s a teaser, more to come.

Today I love that the weather is about to turn here and that’s a significant thing. I love that I’ll be turning on the fireplace soon, maybe in the next day or two, and I look forward to its cheerful and happy flickering light and warmth. I love that fireplaces make me think of hot chocolate and happy conversations. I love autumn because it comes with sweaters and colors and cheeriness and determined preparations.

Today I love drinking coffee in the big old recliner while I write and plan to get ready for the road.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live on the traditional lands of the Chippewas of Nawash in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or 7 generations and my First Nations friend's families go back hundreds of generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I am a freelance writer and I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about living with ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
