Today I Love Family Dinner

Today I love family dinner with my brothers, neither of which participate in social media because, I suspect, they feel that with me there there is no room for them. I love that they are my brothers, I love them, and I love that we are all together for this first thanksgiving as orphans. I love that, here in Canada, it is thanksgiving weekend. I love that tomorrow we’ll be off to an extended family thanksgiving at a great nephew of my mother’s and that will be fun. I love that I know the secrets of familial relationship and that my mother’s great nephew is thus my first cousin once removed. I love that that will be a lot like going to his grandma’s place, where we all used to go to celebrate family thanksgiving when my parents and my mother’s brother and her parents were all still alive. I love that my mother’s sister is still a going concern though she is too many miles away to come for thanksgiving dinner, too many by 2000 and a bit. I love that my memories will include her as well today. I love that when she and my mother were children they made up stories of adventure and acted them out and in those stories were two characters, and my aunt’s character’s name was Jigger and so I often call her that and it makes her smile.

Today I love that it is Saturday and market day and we got everything we wanted at the market today and a little bit more. I love that we spent last night going through clothes and we made a lot of progress in choosing stuff to pass on for others to use for whatever purpose they might find for them. I love that there is talk of crocheting ragged t-shirt strands into mats, it seems like a fun thing to have accomplished. I love that I have some space in my dresser now, and that there’s a stack of shirts in one drawer that may still find its way to the donate/crochet box yet.

Today I love my own homemade banana bread, I’m not gonna lie, it’s better than anyone else’s recipe, ’cause I not only add love, but also a bit of ego and some humor. I love that I am going to possibly cause a new kitchen to appear in this house soon. I love that I have many ideas to make that happen.

Today I love drinking coffee and looking forward to family dinner.

Today I Love Family Dinner

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
