Today I Love When Things Go Our Way

Geranium in bloom
This day just keeps getting better …

Today I love when things go our way, when bills are found to be less than we expected, when things we are looking for turn up, when the sun just shines sunshine all over the danged place. I love when we get to wake up slowly and roll out of bed without anxiety or confusion or deadlines. I love wandering into the kitchen in a happy mood and finding that the mood in the kitchen matches mine perfectly. I love peach and nectarine oatmeal for breakfast so much I could probably eat it again for lunch, but I won’t because there are other things I also love to eat. I love that I have never won the lottery because I suspect that dealing with winning the lottery is not likely as much fun as dealing with the possibility of winning the lottery, though I would not decline the opportunity to find out. I love that the day is warming up. I love that I just found out this morning that I have a road trip coming up next Tuesday. I love that I am a determined soul and my life is better because of that. I love that there is lots to do today and I’m feeling up to these tasks, even if I’m not feeling as well as I think I should be.

Today I love that it feels a bit like Tuesday to me even though it is only Monday, but that just means I still have a Tuesday to experience and I’ll have had some practice at it by existing through false Tuesday today. I love that there is a feel to a Tuesday that isn’t unlike floating in a dream, it isn’t the beginning of the week, and it’s far from the end, it’s not the middle, nor is it the harbinger of anything more average than the middle of the week. I love that Tuesdays are meatloaf or soup types of days. I love that Tuesdays are more suited to reading than to running, a better fit to watching a movie than to making a movie, a better time of the week for thought than for action. I really love Tuesdays and their laissez faire ways.

Today I love the beeping noise from the laundry room telling me there are clothes ready to go out on the line. I love that we have a clothes line and we use it. I love that this is a beautiful day for drying clothes outside. I love that my geranium plant is an explosion of flower clusters on the back deck and that it has started to produce new green leaves to replace the sun burnt ones and that when I prune it back this fall and bring it in it is going to be a beautiful houseplant for this winter.

Today I love drinking coffee while I hang out the laundry and admire the geranium on a day when everything seems to be going our way.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
