Today I Love Apples

coffee and apple
Mmmmm. apples

Today I love apples and all the different types and flavors of them. I love how they have grown along the rail trails from people throwing apple cores out of train windows decades ago. I love that they are so ubiquitous, even in the wilder areas that people think they are a natural part of North America when in truth the edible kinds were brought here only a little more than a couple of hundred years ago or so. I love eating wild apples on the trails because they are always a surprise balance of tang and sweet and tart and taste. I love apple pie and apple cake and apple sauce and apple in oatmeal. I love apple crumble and apple crisp and apple Betty. I love baked apples though I’d love them even more if I could just have my grandma here to make them for us one more time, and I would share them with every one. I love that we got apples at the market today and I’m eating one right now. I love Saturday mornings at the market, they are my favorite thing in the whole world when I am there and solidly in the top two hundred when I’m not there. I love that part of my love for the Saturday morning Owen Sound Farmers’ Market is that they have apples for sale, it just wouldn’t be right without them.

Today I love that we’re planning on going to the Mid Autumn Festival this afternoon, which is a kind of a curious thing to do in Summer, but I’m not ever going to try to argue with a lunar calendar. I love that the cottage is on our list of destinations over the next few days and there is work to be done there that I intend to get done. I love that we are to meet friends for a meal sometime this weekend and just like out friends and our friendships with them, it is all a very casual yet extremely good thing to have as a potential happening, friends make life solidly good.

Today I love plans to eat fish and to make bread and to take care of a few odd jobs like the couple of missing apps on my travel computer that I’ve been wanting to get put on there. I love that I’ve been slowly and steadily taking care of some little issues on the website of one of my other jobs and things are running very smoothly now. I love that there is always something to be done, so I’m never done doing things.

Today I love drinking coffee and eating apples and writing on a Saturday morning after market.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
