Today I love the lilies blooming and that we discovered that the petals of many varieties are edible. I love that the cardinals and killdeers take turns waking us in the morning at the cottage. I love that the lights I put on the dock posts work well enough. I love that I was in and out of the bay a half a dozen times yesterday and may continue that frequency again today. I love that I am sleeping well enough even though I feel pretty tired when I’m awake. I love that last night we fired off a few rounds with the spud gun and everyone took a shot. I love that everyone is letting me wander around somewhat aimlessly and sometimes I need a little solitude so that works out well for me. I love that I spent time yesterday morning assembling some parts I’d made into a gate for the top of the spiral stairs on the deck. I love that once assembled I was able to hang it and it fit perfectly. I love that I was able to sneak off to the hardware store and buy a catchment for it and a spring so that it shuts and latches automatically when ever it gets opened. I love when projects just workout like that.
Today I love that I am still planning to rearrange the bunkie so that it can some times be a writing studio. I love that there is a vintage wood burning parlor stove in there that came from my grandfather’s home and is likely over a hundred years old and I am planning on hooking it up in there and being able to warm the place up in the late fall and early spring. I love that so many things in my life are combinations of vintage attachments to my past and ambitious plans for my future.
Today I love french toast made by one of our weekend guests for breakfast. I love that we had a fire yesterday down by the water and there were hotdogs and marshmallows roasted at that time. I love that I cannot think of a better place to be on this day than here at the cottage with people laughing and talking and smiling and enjoying themselves and each others company. I love that, though mostly unspoken, this gathering, this laughter, these smiles and salutations and friendly jests, these are love realized.
Today I love drinking coffee and contemplating the fact that I have a working gate at the top of my spiral staircase.
