Today I Love The Call Of Summerfolk

coffee and volunteer shirt
Ready to roll!

Today I love the call of Summerfolk, our huge local folk festival that so many of us volunteer at. I love that construction started on Saturday and I’m on my way over to the park to dig in to that. I love that I get to be one of the hosts of the official weekly Summerfolk radio show, Georgian Bay Roots, and that that’s all i need for my volunteer accreditation. I love that I still can’t stay away from helping with construction. I love that the construction crew is the rowdiest thoughtful, most ragged classy crew of all the Summerfolk crews. I love that I cannot even drive through the park without wanting to get out of the car and start working. I love that so much is done already and I’m willing to bet that we will be ready by Friday opening time. I love that I am already up and dressed in one of my Summerfolk volunteer shirts, this one from 2014. I love that they are all dated. I love that this one is Creamsicle  orange, not my color at all, but I wear it with pride. I love that I will be loading gear of a construction kind into my big old truck and heading over to the park as soon as I can. I love that I will be wearing my work boots again, lovely old things that they are.

Today I love that yesterday I found the beginnings of the lyrics I started writing two years ago about getting pulled over by the police with a trailer of Summerfolk materials on its way from storage to the park. I love that they are at this time written to the tune of the Mary Ellen Carter, a folk anthem that is used to end the festival every year. I love that, although I never finished the song, some of the lines make me laugh and I think I might have to dust those lyrics off and finish them.

Today I love oatmeal and coffee for breakfast. I love that the bay is still in my mind and I wish I could finish writing and just walk down to the dock and fall into the water. I love knowing my mind and my heart and knowing that my fondest desires are things to be worked towards, not excuses to shirk the things I need to do. I love that I am lucky enough to enjoy most of what I do.

Today I love drinking coffee and getting ready to roll to the Summerfolk site.

Today I Love The Call Of Summerfolk

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
