Today I love a cottage full of squealing happy children as they work desperately to make the end of Summer the best part. I love that the oldest one keeps capturing crayfish and after a brief examination he puts them back in the water and watches them swim away. I love that the youngest one, though not very clear in his speech, is flawless in his logic. I love that, since his favorite word is “No,” he said “Yes” to me when I asked him if it was okay if I tickled him whenever he said no, smart kid. I love that there are more of them on the way here before the weekend is over and that’s just fine by me, bring it on. I love how children remind me both of my own childhood and that that childhood has as yet not ended. I love that children often recognize the child in me and include me in their games. I love that breakfast was a big deal here this morning. I love this place, the peace, the freedom, the wildness just barely tamed, the perfectness of it even when there’s work to be done here and the weather isn’t what it might be … how does that work? I love being here at this place because here is love.
Today I love that yesterday I got to show off how much of a load my little trailer and my growly truck could haul in one load. I love that I got to wander around the peninsula a little bit and that reminded me of when I was a youth and we drove all over the two counties of Grey and Bruce. I love that at the cottage I am in Grey county and I look across the bay to Bruce county. I love that they are like siblings, each determined to be the better, but each also fully aware that together they are the best. I love that together they take up hundreds of square miles of beautiful land.
Today I love doughnuts from the bakery at the grocery store. I love Bluewater Park in Wiarton. I love that I’m planning to plunge myself into the chill of the bay in a little while. I love that there will be some kayaking eventually as well. I love that I’m going to light a fire tonight no matter what else is going on and I’m sure the flame will draw others just like moths are drawn to whatever moths are drawn to, it’ll be great.
Today I love drinking coffee while I write and children squeal with delight by the water.
