Today I love the word “go” like at the start of a race or a contest. I love that today we start on our latest adventure but we start very gradually, sleeping in a little bit, coffee in bed, breakfast on the deck, finishing touches to packing, watering the garden and admiring the weather, listening to the neighborhood children worship summer in the way they do, by abandoning themselves to the outdoor world of play. I love that all my plans for this adventure were the dowdy, frumpy plans of an old guy who was trying to make sure that he would be able to go on a trip without too much inconvenience. I love how now that the departure time is almost upon us I’m caring less about the inconvenience and more about the fun we intend to have. I love that this is a very serious work trip … but not until we’ve had a few days of leisure and exploration and enjoyment. I love that airplanes thrill me in a quiet subtle way, always getting me pondering the wonders of so many veins of thought, physics, freedom, philosophy, motion sickness (which I do not suffer from thus far and I’ve been in some rocky situations), fear, and joy. I love watching people say hello and goodbye in airports, first chance to make a new impression, last chance to tell someone how you feel about them, it’s always interesting to see whether fear and decorum win out over love and spirit.
Today I love that this is the first blog being written on my newly refurbished travel computer and so far it’s working very well. I love that I just realized that I’ll need to find my memory card reader in order to transfer pictures to this system unless I want to have to dig out a cable every time. I love that I’m now thinking there isn’t much difference between digging out a card reader and a cable, but I think I’d like to have both options. I love the way my brain fumbles around with these things, it’s like watching a very strong baby finding its way through fragile things.
Today I love finishing the food at breakfast so that the fridge can sit mostly empty over the next few days. I love that I will miss dragon boating this week, miss it very much. I love that there will be people to do my work on the boat, so it’s all good.
Today I love drinking coffee while saying GO!
