Today I Love The Columbine

Columbine acquaintances

Today I love the Columbine climbing to the sky to share it’s rich purple glory with the beautiful blue of a sunny day. I love the little ways that the front flower bed changes on the daily. I love watching closely only to be surprised when I notice something that clearly has been changing right before my eyes but that I missed, like the giant Lady’s Mantle plants that are so huge right now when I swear they were only tiny just the day before. I love that the dragon flies are racing around at the cottage and met us on the front porch there for lunch the other day, love the bumbling bees as they rumble around the gardens and find the treasures too small for us to find in the flowers and blossoms that decorate their world as well as ours. I love the crawly things on the ground that go about their business while we ignore them for the most part and yet they do things we could not do, till the soil, compost the detritus, and aerate everything so that the plants we all think that we grew will survive. I love that it is easy to be thankful when I think about how little I really have to do with gardening, despite how hard I may have to work at it.

Today I love the plans that I have to keep me from being bored with things. I love that there are more plans than there is time to complete, but that just means that in my life I’ll never be bored and I’ll never be done, and who wants to be done. I love that the lawns at both places look good and I’m on top of them so far. I love that we keep making new plans for different things to be done in our yard and with our gardens. I love that we have plants and seeds and even a few trees to keep us company in our busy and hectic days.

Today I love making meal plans and then cooking them. I love that sometimes they turn out great and sometimes not as great but we eat them anyway. I love that food is an adventure here and I love adventures. I love that I have slept so well the last couple of nights and am feeling stronger. I love how hard it is to keep me down even when I’m not feeling great, and when I’m feeling good it is impossible.

Today I love sipping coffee while the nearby, sky high Columbine waves coolly to the blue sky.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
