Today I Love Sunny Morning Walks

Today I love sunny morning walks in the early part of the day before the night time chill has been stripped away from the air. I love how good the sun feels when you walk out of a shadow and the rays hit you like a weightless blanket, suddenly there but only making their presence known by their warmth. I love the rumble of a new day as people start shaking the ground and the air with their presence, making their contributions known to the world by the loudness of their commute. I love that we walked to work, well, we walked to one work and then I walked back home to where I work, and I love that i got the better part of that deal because I had to walk twice as far to get to work and that will be good for me. I love that the crossing guard is all excited about basketball though he never watched it before. I love that he didn’t know it was invented by James Naismith and that Mr. Naismith was a Canadian teaching in the States when he first hung a couple of peach baskets up in the gym at his school and divided his gym class up in teams and created the game. I love how happy this funky country of mine is over having won the all the basketball.

Today I love that it is Friday and though it seems like just another day on the surface there is the unmistakable undercurrent of Fridayness to the day that makes it just that little bit more special. I love that though there are many things that need to be done today and it looks like a hectic day, the Friday flavor of it makes it a little bit exciting and that makes all the things a little bit easier to do. I love that even at the age of sixty, my Fridays still have that “school’s out” feeling to them and that, I hope, will never go away.

Today I love chive soup that gets made here regularly and is kind of like leek and potato soup but is made with tons of chives and there’s little risk of them running out because they are growing into the path and the patio and we’re basically just eating them as part of our ongoing landscaping and yard maintenance program here. I love that we often take things that seem to be less then perfect situations and figure out how to make them work in our favor.

Today I love drinking coffee on a Friday morning after a good walk in the cool and sweet air.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
