Today I Love Our Funky Dock

dark sky, bay, trees, dock
Waiting for the rain …

Today I love our funky dock, that it went into the water yesterday (most of it) and that it is still there this morning. I love that a neighbor sold us some more sections of the same stuff so we can expand it a little and add a swim platform a little bit farther out in the bay, or just expand it a lot if we can source the connectors for it. I love that when we got into the bay to put the dock in the water was not as cold as I was expecting and I think we got that old dock into there just in time to start enjoying the bay again soon. I love that I may not be running out to the end of the dock this year and throwing myself in with wild abandon , because even if I am not up to running, I’m still going to toss myself off the end with the same abandonment and there will be a little wild in the nature of the action too. I love that the weekend was warm and clear, sunny and bright, and though it is threatening rain now I’m okay with that too because we got a lot of stuff done out there in the great outdoors over the last two days. I love that we played cumulative cooperative Scrabble on the weekend and our score was over 1100. I love that we kind of make up the rules as we go along, but we adhere to the no made up words rule very rigidly. I love that we went kayaking twice this past weekend and I did not have to be towed back in to the shore.

Today I love that I have lists of things to do this week and next weekend. I love that I’m dealing with a kind of tunnel vision about finishing that dock now because I’ve always been like that about some things and so I continue to live this life of mine and that’s good because I love this life of mine. I love my old sandals that come out every summer. I love wandering around here at the cottage and fixing things and doing things and enjoying things.

Today I love roadside treasures like the new free-standing patio swing that we got on Friday. I love when our problem is trying to put everything in the best possible place. I love that I am determined to find some material and fix the sunshade of the old patio swing. I love that I am also determined to fix the patio table umbrella where its seams let go.

Today I love drinking my coffee at the Cottage after breakfast on a Monday morning, and waiting for the rain.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
