I love this world of wonder and all the things we have made global because they work so well. I love the English language and though I am useless at learning other languages I love listening to them and contemplating the cultures those languages came from. I love the joke about how English doesn’t borrow words from other languages, it waits in dark alleys and mugs them for spare words. I love the most beautiful concept of “zero” and how it has simplified math and the world in general. I love that education is a commodity that is beyond value and disproves the adage, “You get what you pay for.” because there is valuable knowledge lying around and available for free. I love to learn things, even if they make me feel foolish because they had eluded me despite their obviousness. I love physics and the solid factual basis that it is built on. I love how easily we can find information these days. I love that I will never stop learning things and I love that I am determined that education is the one salvation of humanity. I love the realization that each generation of us has more to learn and the opportunity to add to humanity’s collective intelligence, despite the fact that some of us are determined to limit education and view it as a burden and an expense that can be done without. I love that it makes me laugh when I think that, someday, they will learn.
Today I love that the dragon boat that glides through my harbor and my bay and my summers will be returning to that water from a long winter’s sleep and that will be happening in a week or so. I love that we have many dedicated paddlers and more people interested in trying out for the team. I love that the sleeping dragon is waiting for me to come and haul her out of her winter lair and I love that I get the honor of towing her to the water and witnessing her crew set her gently down on the domain of her kingdom for her to rule the waves once more.
Today I love that I am in my Wednesday office and keeping myself busy here. I love That I have my usual work to do and the radio show script to write for my May show. I love that the sky is mottled with some cloud and some blue spots, the day is warmer than we’ve been used to these last few weeks, and the taste of the last half of Spring is in the air.
Today I love drinking coffee and contemplating everything I know and all the things I yet have to learn.
