Today I Love My Past

Chronicles of Kemble
Where I came from …

Today I love my past and the past that preceded me and paved the way for me to have this life of happiness and freedom that I enjoy. I love that I have located my copy of the book that was written about the village I grew up in when I was a youngster. I love that there is a picture of me and my two brothers in it. I love that it has the history of the generations of my family that settled in that area. I love that I still live only 25 minutes from there and that my cottage is on the other side of that village by about 15 minutes so I get to drive through there every week or two. I love that so much has changed and that I have become a sort of historian of sorts, curating those changes even if it is just for myself and my memories. I love that this book I own was typed by my mother and another woman from Kemble, and composed by my grandmother with help from many of the people in the village. I love that it was printed as images taken directly from the typewritten pages. I love that one page is upside down. I love that there were less than a thousand copies printed and that copies of this book are guarded like treasure and the last time I saw a copy of this book sell it went for $125 which is about ten times its original price.

Today I love that the sun is shining so far, the day is starting to warm up, the week is starting to wind down with that special Thursday aura that permeates my life this time of the weekly cycle and that I am very busy. I love that this is the day that I will finish up my episode of the radio show because this is the day that it is due and if I don’t get it done I’ll stress wickedly about it. I love that I get to write and record a radio show, that I get to hear myself on the air, though in truth I’m usually listening later by streaming online ’cause something always comes up.

Today I love projects that look like fun. I love that I’m going to be putting together some outdoor chairs. I love that we’re discussing stain colors for those chairs. I love that I would stain them plaid if I could. I love that cooler minds generally prevail in matters such as staining chairs.

Today I love drinking coffee and contemplating where I came from in book form.

Today I Love My Past

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
