Today I Love Laundry On The Line

Laundry day!!!

Today I love laundry on the line that I put up last week. I love that it is laundry day and the familiar rumblings in the next room are making me feel happy. I love that that old dryer will not be used today and that is my declaration of determination. I love that the clothes coming in to the house today will all have that fresh smell that laundry has had most of my life, that smell that will take me back to my childhood every time, that smell that we got to experience even in winter when the clothes got hung out on freezing cold days if it was sunny and bright and when they came in they needed little time in the dryer and sometimes they only needed to be hung on the backs of chairs by the wood stove. I love that Tuesdays are laundry day and I love that Tuesdays are also my busiest home day of the week usually. I love that today is not an exception to that rule. I love that I have errands to run and things to do and writing that needs looked after and I still won’t be done all the stuff that’s lined up in front of me. I love that as I write this the dull grey day is brightening and by the time my first load of laundry is ready to go on the line, if I’m lucky, the sun will be peeking through.

Today I love that yesterday we bought some outdoor wooden chair kits and now we’re taking our time discussing what color or colors to stain them before we put them together. I love that they were such a good price that it didn’t make sense to buy lumber and make them ourselves. I love that each one came with a footstool and we’ve decided to make them flat on top and use them as tables. I love that there is all kinds of talk about colors and that this might take a little while, but we both know we want them put together soon so we may have to just decide, but neither one of us wants to choose the wrong color.

Today I love that this is a porridge making day and I’m leaning heavily toward pineapple, but I may have to settle for what’s in the freezer and that’s okay because the freezer is full of good and wonderful fruit. I love getting good ideas about how to change things or fix things or do things so that they are done easy or well or both, I love when that happens. I love that I am reclined in my big old easy chair right this minute.

Today I love sipping coffee while I put the clothes up on the line and breathe in the sweet, chilled Spring air.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
