Today I Love Fridays

coffee and homemade bread
Coffee and magic …

Today I love Fridays and the sudden realization that the week is about to screech to a halt and make way for the weekend. I love that there is rain and even possibly snow because I’m hoping the ground will stay moist enough for me to try rolling the lawn on Monday because I’ve decided I’d like to have a not lumpy lawn this year, who knows, maybe I’m gonna buy a tent and sleep out on it. I love that I just made myself laugh, though I used to love sleeping out in tents I now find it to be too intensely uncomfortable for my old body. I love that there are comfy beds that I can sleep in here at home and also at the cottage. I love that I think I could fall asleep on the lawn in the day time when I should be working on something but that I know if i were supposed to be sleeping I’d lie awake and grumble about being uncomfortable. I love that I am a complicated guy. I love that we are supposed to be having a chance of snow over the next 36 hours and I’m teasing the people who take that personally. I love telling them to ask for their money back, or that they’re the reason we’re getting snow. I love that I am a good man with some occasional bad tendencies.

Today I love that yesterday I made fresh bread. I love that I just realized that, while you can make bread stale, you can’t make stale bread. I love the subtle intricacies and nuances of my language. I love that we have nearly run out of food because that means we will be doing a big push toward restocking soon and though I’m the only one here that really loves going grocery shopping, I still really love going grocery shopping. I love that I also made soup and though I burnt supper a bit, I barbecued a passable meal last night as well. For a guy with some kind of bug going on I got me some cooking done and I love that!

Today I love memories of malted milk. I love that I may start doing stained glass art again. I love that the stereo played through much of the day yesterday and I may turn it on again today after I’m done writing. I love the sound of rain in the morning when my eyes are not yet open, I love when I can hear what the weather is like. I love that soon we will be cleaning up and clearing up our yard and getting some things planted. I love that there were worms racing across the walkway this morning and I would have stayed and watched to see who might have won … but who has time for that long an event to play out?

Today I love drinking coffee and contemplating the magic and alchemy of bread.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
