Today I Love Car Pool Lanes

On the road to all the possibilities

Today I love carpool lanes that let us roll at a good rate of speed with less worry about lane hoppers. I love that I’m getting to know some of the highways of our province, though I’m still happier on two lane black top. I love that life is good when you diversify your experiences and I am Mr. Diversification these days. I love listening to classical music when I’m on the road. I love that sometimes we listen to other stations and I love road songs in that I love songs that are good ones to listen to while driving. I love that lyrics from Cat Stevens song, Where Do The Children Play, pop into my head unbidden sometimes when we’re rolling on roads with our lorry loads and that’s pretty cool to listen to in my head. I love interesting old buildings that speak to me of style and class from days gone by. I love modern new buildings that soar and fly up into the air with vaulted and lofty ambitions. I love that even though I love all these sights, all this architecture, I still love that my two lane black top roads are going to bring me home past good old farms with pastures and barns that talk to me of the joy of my youth.

Today I love that we are still piling up the adventures. I love that today we’re off to see relatives for a visit and then have a leisurely drive home with a stop or two maybe in some place quiet and restful, like our stop yesterday in Lowville Park. I love that these days are slowly easing us toward the weather that brings on picnics and hikes and other outdoor activities. I love the easy way that this happens if I just let it come, a bit of rain, a bit of snow, a bit of sun, a bit of time.

Today I love oranges in my oatmeal. I love fresh made banana bread that happened yesterday. I love that I can just decide to bake and then go ahead and do that. I love that I feel cinnamon buns coming on someday soon and if I am as good at that as I used to be there will be some issues involving gluttony that I will have to address personally, because if they’re as good as the ones I used to make then, damn, those are going to be good. I love that I don’t brag idly.

Today I love drinking coffee on the road, heading toward all the possibilities.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
