Today I Love Warmer Days

Highway and overpasses
The roads open up before us…

Today I love warmer days with subtle skies and happy breezes. I love that I have made it around the sun once more and returned to the northern hemisphere’s spring tilt. I love the swirling dance of cloverleafs and highway ramps, the intricate moves that put everyone where they need to be. I do not love when accidents happen, but thus far we’ve avoided anything bad and I love that. I love being on the road, but I also love when we get back off and take a break from it. I love that we spent yesterday at the swim meet and today we’re off to visit a different place. I love that I’ll be adventuring on my own this afternoon and then we’ll hit the road and head home. I love my own bed, there’s no greater reward for traveling well than arriving home and getting to sleep the sleep of peace after having successfully navigated another road trip. I love that when we are on the road we are innovative and find ways to attain a certain level of comfort, like bringing our own coffee and coffee maker with us. I love that though it is good coffee, it’s still better at home.

I love that the driver right now is reciting her mantra of, “Keep calm. Be brave. Wait for the signs.” and we both think that’s funny. I love that we share the driving and that either one of us will drive anywhere, but we both know that when everything else is equal, she is the better driver out here on the more complicated highways and that means we are well equipped for any roads this old world wants to throw at us. I love that the oddest thing about our strengths in driving is that I am the best choice for the long quiet roads and there is no amount of contemplation that can reason out why that would be, but it is so.

Today I love hearing stories of solidarity about people of all faiths standing guard or attending prayers at local mosques. I love that people sent flowers to our Islamic Centre in my little city. I love that in my country center is spelled “centre” ’cause that feels like it might well appear to be exotic to others who spell it that other way. I love that last night we went to dinner with friends and had a really nice meal. I love that part of my adventures today will be looking for deals on phone charging equipment and other things.

Today I love drinking coffee on the road while our valiant little car tears through the miles and miles of paved ribbons of roadway under the careful and fearless guidance of our best highway driver.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
