Today I Love Sunny Saturdays At The Pool

flags of Canada
Country, provinces and territories watching the commotion.

Today I love sunny Saturdays at the pool. I love how I end up in some of the most unusual places just because I’m happy to tag along to things for the opportunity to watch and learn. I love that this is my fourth swim meet, that I don’t swim competitively, and that I’ve been to an invitational, nationals, and provincials now. I love that as I am typing this, people I know are in the pool competing and doing well. I love that this is the perfect way to get ready for summer, it’s likely 90 degrees in this building and so very humid and, wow, this is not anything like our weather outside where it was about freezing when we were coming here. I love that our adventures don’t stop with the pool today, there’s talk of grocery shopping in places that have unique and exotic things available, and there are also reservations for dinner tonight and then more wandering around tomorrow before we head home. I love adventures and I don’t think I’m ever going to let them go without me or at least I’m going to refuse to watch them slip by without serious consideration. I love the power of saying yes and the joy that has brought me lately in my life.

Today I love breakfast in a restaurant before my eyes were fully open. I love that I ordered the first thing I thought I’d like because I was too groggy to think about it. I love that it was delicious and I’m going to maybe start doing that more often, open the menu to a page and just scan to the first thing i like and say, “That’s the one!” Maybe not, but I might give that a try every now and then, and I love that I even considered it.

Today I love that the sound of a twenty lane pool complex is like one long never ending wave hitting the shore. I love when I go places and every currently valid flag from my country is hanging on the wall. I love coffee in my twenty ounce travel mug, that’s the stuff. I love hanging out where people are doing things they love and sharing that excitement with some of them.I love how determined some of them can be, makes me feel good for them. I love that while I wrote this I watched my person come in second in both of the two heats she swam in and I know she’s got a good chance at winning some hardware in at least one of those events in her age group.

Today I love drinking coffee by the pool and watching Ontario’s passionate compete under the flags of this country of mine.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
