Today I Love Long Lazy Saturdays

Colpoy's bay frozen over
Frozen plains of ice

Today I love long lazy Saturdays that take their time getting up to speed and then just coast through the hours gently like a hawk riding thermals and slowly moving through the sky. I love wandering about town and checking out the things we want to see at our own pace. I love that yesterday afternoon at the Bleeding Carrot the place was packed and my friends Sandra Swannell and Terry Young made the open really come to life with their fabulous hosting. I love that the idea of getting guest hosts has breathed even more life into the open mic nights and that new life makes me really happy. I love that although it is my turn next week I’m taking the week off and my good friend Dave Hawkins will be filling in  for me and he always does a fabulous job. I love that last night I went curling again and my team did alright. I love that I’m under no delusions about why my team is doing so well, though two of them are new this year they have become curlers and the other one was already doing great and when he can’t make it he gets a good spare, so there is little I can do to spoil the game by the time it’s my turn to throw rocks.

Today I love that we made it to the market for breakfast and it was good as usual. I love that we got bread and dropped off our library materials and wandered around Owen Sound a little. I love being on the streets of my charming little city and I love that when we finished doing that we packed up and headed to the cottage and once we turned up the heat here we hit the road again and went into Wiarton to do a bit of hanging around there as well. I love that I grew up in this area and that these towns are part of my life.

Today I love fresh pasta and homemade sauce. I love when my hair is braided even though I also love when it is flying free. I love that the bay has frozen over and looks like miles of clean white desert stretched between the headlands and the islands and beyond. I love that I keep threatening to go out on the ice and fish and I keep getting told that I’m not allowed to by the one whose authority I respect enough to listen to … but I still keep threatening, just because I like hearing her tell me, “No!”

Today I love drinking coffee by the fireplace and looking out over the distant, frozen plains of ice that reach to lands I’ve never been to in my life … but maybe will make plans to go to soon.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
