Today I Love Curling On Friday Nights

Adventures in Jam

Today I love curling on Friday nights and how that makes the week wrap up perfectly. I love that I don’t remember winning or losing much, and the score is not very relevant to me, but the game is important and the challenges that arise during the course of an end always entrance me and make my evening an adventure that I wouldn’t have known it could be if I hadn’t engaged in this sport three years ago. I love that my team is often a collection of people who are new or newer to the game and that they often seem to be of voracious appetites when it comes to learning. I love that I am like a sponge when it comes to absorbing knowledge about things I enjoy and I’m happy to squeeze that knowledge back out to others who want to know what I’ve learned. I love curling because I get to play, calculate, learn, and teach all at the same time. I love that I go play no matter how I’m feeling and it always makes me feel better. I love that curling is so much fun that I find myself wishing the day away just to get onto the ice and throw rocks.

Today I love that this day is so bright and full of promise. I love that the temperature is supposed to get all the way up to near the freezing mark and it might go a bit over that. I love that there is grass peeking through the snow beside the neighbor’s house and that my lawn mower and my snow blower are parked side by side in the garage and that serendipitous sort of thing kind of makes me laugh a little. I love that I got some more stuff cleared out of the garage yesterday and I’m anxiously awaiting warmer weather so I can get busy on sorting more things out out there.

Today I Love people who are coming to terms with loss and realization of the worth of family and friends who’s impact on this world continues on through memories. I love that it’s the everyday things in life that resonate when we are gone. I love that I’ll be happy to be remembered for those everyday things, that will be good enough. I love that we bought mango jam a couple of days ago and I’m excited to try that so I’m trying not to eat all the strawberry jam quickly because I love strawberry jam too and because the anticipation of trying something new is also worth savoring.

Today I love drinking my coffee with toast and strawberry jam.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
