Today I Love This Wild Day Off

stormy day
Despite the weather, I made it to work

Today I love this wild day off. I love that I posted on Facebook that I made it in to the office as a joke because most folks know I work from my home and we’re in a the middle of a huge storm with closed roads and closed schools and businesses. I love that I joked about almost having to turn back when the wind rattled the patio door, that was the best part. I love that I laugh at my own jokes, because someone has to. I love that I have such fond memories of snow days as a student, and I love that I am able to adopt the snow day attitude even if I don’t get to take time off now. I love that I am only typing at half my normal speed because it is a snow day. I love that I slept in and had a late breakfast. I love that although we call Monday a day off here I usually have a few things to do and I am doing them, but I’m doing them with an attitude of “whatever …”. I love that I still put all the care and concern in, I just do that with less stress. I love that I needed a break like this and I may extend the snow day attitude for a few days past the actual storm, maybe even for a week.

Today I love that we went out for dinner with our friends last night and because of the weather the place we chose was very quiet … until we got there. I love that the food was delicious as it always is. I love that we went to an open mic in the afternoon and listened to me on the radio when we got home and then headed out for our dinner reservations and had a wonderful day all in all. I love that our friends are fellow musicians and so my day was really all about the music.

Today I love oatmeal and the fact that we never make it with the same extra ingredients twice in a row. I love that as pedestrian and commonplace as oatmeal seems like it should be, ours has come to represent adventure. I love it with so many different kinds of fruits and fruit combinations in it and I love that I often just decide at the last minute what to put in. I love that I make a big enough pot of the stuff to last us for days and that makes breakfast almost instant.

Today I love drinking coffee in my office/recliner while the storm whirls around outside these walls and I continue to work, but with a snow day attitude, so there.

Kelly Babcock

I was born in the city of Toronto in 1959, but moved when I was in my fourth year of life. I was raised and educated in a rural setting, growing up in a manner I like to refer to as free range. I live in an area where my family history stretches back 6 or more generations. I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 50 and have been both struggling with the new reality and using my discoveries to make my life better. I write two blogs here at Psych Central, one about having ADHD and one that is a daily positive affirmation that acts as an example of finding the good in as much of my life as I possibly can.
