Today I love this endlessly rolling lake comprised of coves and bays, bites and sounds, and even the odd tickle. I love that it goes from long stretches of sandy beach to sheer drops of underwater limestone bluffs whose peaks just peek above the surface. I love this crisp cold day and the lazy way it has progressed through cloud patches and sunny breaks and all the while we’ve just relaxed our way through its little chores and necessities. I love that I am breathing a little easier as we engage with the down hill slide of the last month’s worth of days ’til spring, just 32 days to go to the ascending equinox, and so the countdown begins. I love my life and the fun I get to have. I love that in the previous four days I’ve thrown sixty rocks, swept or at least escorted 180 other rocks, played thirty ends of curling in six games, three of them six end games and three of them four enders. I love that I can’t remember how many I won though I know I won some, how many I lost though there were those as well, but I remember that I tied one because I’m pretty sure that is the first time I’ve tied a game as a skip. I love that curling isn’t the only fun I have, but it’s a big part of my winter fun.
Today I love the breakfast I cooked this morning. I love that there are four clear cut grades of edible bread and the worst is in a bag from some factory bakery with a brand name on it and the best is my own hand made bread.I love that we’re suffering with in-store bakery bread right now because there was no time to get to the market or make bread on my own, and those are the two best kinds of bread, and eating the third best kind reminds me that we were too busy having fun.
Today I love farm fresh eggs. I love good food from good sources. I love real, pure vanilla and things made with it. I love lemon poppy seed loaf. I love decadent rich food that makes you stop whatever you’re doing when you eat it. I love working outside in the winter. I love fresh air. I love anything ever written by P.G. Wodehouse. I love watching T.V. while snuggling on the couch. I love the warmth and friendliness of the cottage even when we just arrive and it is damned cold and slowly warming up.
Today I love drinking coffee while the lake rolls endlessly by.
