Today I love snow days which are days when the weather conditions are so bad that the buses are kept off the roads and kids don’t go to school. I love that today is the thirteenth snow day this winter and that is apparently a record. I love that when I was a kid (cue violins) we were lucky to get three or four snow days in a school year. I love that back in the seventies we had a snow week once and that was awesome and the drifts across the roads in Kemble were taller than I was and we were able to run like crazy people and throw ourselves into the sides of them and when we fell away we left our imprints in the walls of snow. I love that the township had to clear the first lane of our road out with a giant snowblower on the front of a truck and we all stood on the steps of the general store on the corner and watched that thing coming from the west for over twenty minutes and cheered as it got to the corner and turned and headed south and then we watched it for another twenty minutes or more. I love that we were all safe because we were all together in our little village, friends, family, neighbors, all safe.
Today I love that it is Friday. I love that I was at the hospital yesterday and they still can’t figure out what’s wrong with me but they gave me some antibiotics to ward off certain potential problems and they seem to be helping so even without knowing what’s wrong, at least I have a week of ease to look forward to. I love that this afternoon is open mic and I may just wander down there early and play a song or two and then scamper off when the crowd shows up. I love that tonight is the first night of the new draw at the curling club and I’m looking forward to my new team and having some more fun. I love that tomorrow we will be celebrating Chinese New Year at the museum with friends and acquaintances.
Today I love cookies of any kind. I love that I’ll be having to make bread again soon. I love that there is lots to do this weekend. I love that we’re going to try to get to the cottage once again. I love that it is exactly six weeks ’til the first day of Spring’s return.
Today I love drinking coffee in the living room by the fire and watching the wild snow blowing around.
